Peli Protector vs Peli Air: What's the difference?

Peli Protector vs. Peli Air

If you have just entered the world of Peli protective cases, you are probably seeing these two names a lot: Peli Protector and Peli Air. Now you may ask yourself, What are the differences between the two, if there are any?

Today we are going to break down the key differences between the two ranges, which will help you make your final decision. Before we begin, you can take a look at each of the ranges here to better your understanding.

Stick around until the end to save some money on your next case!

Peli Protector Range

Peli Air Range

Strength: Which Peli case is stronger?

Both cases are crushproof, as proven by numerous extreme testing methods, and both have stood the test of time. But if we are talking about strength, we can look at a couple of factors:

Material: The Protector cases may appear to be much more rigid than the Air Range, but they are no more protective, with all three tested to US/NATO mil-spec standards. The plastic used on the Air Range can bend and flex, whereas the Protector stays rigid. It always rebounds upon impact or under strain.

Latches: The Protector range features two-step open and close latches, also known as double-throw latches. Whereas the Air fetaures press and pull latches, which are still IP67-rated, are a lot easier to use.

Weight: Which Peli case is lighter?

As you can guess from the name, the Air range is up to 40% lighter than the Protector range as it is made from HPX resin developed (HPX2TM), but do not be fooled; the lighter-weight design does not affect its durability.

Appearance: Which Peli case looks better?

Now this one is all down to opinion, but we can look at a few deciding factors.

Finish: The Air cases have a smoother finish, and you could argue that they look more modern than the older protector range. However, being smoother means that scratches and marks are more visible than the rugged, smeared effect of the protector range.

Colours: The Air cases only come in 4 colours: black, yellow, orange, and lver. Meanwhile, the protector(depending on size) comes in 7 colours: black, silver, olive, dessert tan, yellow, orange, and pink, so you have more choice.

Price: Which Peli case is cheaper?

So it comes down to the final big question: which case is cheaper? Although the Peli Air cases are lighter, have fewer colours, and use weaker latches, due to the manufacturing process of the plastic used in the case, they are actually slightly more expensive than the Peli Protector range. Some people would rather pay the extra for the lighter weight if they are travelling and have a limited weight allowance.
